Guinness explains 18 per cent slide in profit

GUINNESS Nigeria Plc has attributed the 18 per cent drop in profit after tax for the financial year ended June 2012 to distribution cost incurred from its N52 bilion capacity expansion investment, as well as the interest charges incurred inform of overdraft from support received from the investment.

The Managing Director of the company, Seni Adetu, while addressing journalists yesterday at a press briefing to announce the forth coming yearly general meeting of the company, explained that the cost incurred during the year from the capacity expansion programme which is expected to reposition the company from low capacity to almost very adequate capacity in the long run with the interest charges from the support the company received from the investment were reasons behind the decline in profit after tax.

BA’s First Airbus A380 ‘Super-jumbo’ Aircraft Reaches Milestone

The building of British Airways’ first Airbus A380 ‘Super-jumbo’ aircraft reached a major milestone this week, with the installation of the four giant Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines.

The engines, which each produce 70,000 lbs of thrust (or approximately 30,000 horsepower, the equivalent of 300 family cars), were attached to aircraft ‘MSN095’, the first of 12 A380s the airline has on order.

The aircraft is due to be delivered to British Airways in July next year.

Visafone Nigeria becomes 1st CDMA operator to launch BlackBerry Services.

Visafone Nigeria will on Friday 26th October, launch BlackBerry Internet Service for the first CDMA BlackBerry service in Nigeria (in the whole Europe, Middle East and Africa region actually). Waldi Wepener, Regional Director for RIM in East, Central and West Africa, said, “We are proud to support Visafone with the launch of the BlackBerry solution to their customers in Nigeria, and to bring CDMA-enabled BlackBerry smartphones to the region with Visafone for the first time.

MTN Nigeria offers software for microbanks as cloud service


MTN Nigeria has introduced new banking software, called MTN XaaS, for up-and-coming banks in the West African nation. The new service platform is part of efforts to improve the operations of microfinance banking in that country. According to MTN, the new software platform could save microfinance banks up to 70 percent of the traditional costs involved in procuring, hosting and implementing typical banking software.
