Etisalat Sponsors African Patrons Cup Polo Tournament

Nigeria's leading and most innovative telecommunications company, Etisalat has taken on the title sponsorship of the African Patrons Cup International Polo Tournament which is currently taking place at the international Fifth Chukker Polo and Country Club in Kaduna. The first week of the low goal tournament took place last weekend, with the second week of high goal polo scheduled for November 1 to November 4.

“ We have taken on the title sponsorship of the African Patrons cup, one of the highest goal tournaments in West Africa, to associate ourselves with Polo, a timeless, classic dynamic and energetic sport just like the Etisalat brand,” said Wael Ammar, Chief Commercial Officer, Etisalat Nigeria.

  noted that Polo has a strong following and the Etisalat African Patrons Cup gathers over 1,000 people over the two weeks from every corner of Nigeria, from Kano, Katsina, Abuja, to Lagos, Port Harcourt, and internationally – South Africa, Argentina, Spain, and the UK.

The Founder, Fifth Chukker Polo and Country Club, Adamu Attah, said they are pleased to have Etisalat as the sponsor of the African Patrons Cup tournament, adding that as an official network for the Club and tournament, they are sure of having good communication amongst themselves and the polo family. “We are proud to welcome Etisalat to a multi-year title sponsorship of the African Patrons Cup and to have them as part of Fifth Chukker and the broader polo family,” he said.

In the final match of the first week of the tournament which is in its fifth year, Sub-Riders Polo Club emerged winners beating tournament favouritesBamboo House with a score of 71/2 and 7 respectively. The tournament which took place at Km 2 Kaduna – Jos road, Kaduna, started on the 24-28 October, with eight teams competing for the title. The teams include Rubicon, RTC, Sub-Rider, Deebee Farms, Susplan, Titans II, Bamboo House, and the YY-Kangimi.

The second week of the tournament starts on November 1 and ends on November 4, with four teams competing for the high goal title. The teams include, Delaney, AMG Barbedos, Access Bank Fifth Chukker, and the Keffi Ponies.
